The Truth About Solar Energy- 4 Common Myths Debunked

With so many clear benefits to having a solar energy system installed at your homes or business, more and more Americans are investing in solar power and discovering the truth about what it means to go solar.

That said, there are still some myths circulating that are doing nothing to help the push for solar energy, and it’s time these were debunked to allow more home and business owners the opportunity to benefit from a truly, green, clean energy source.

Let’s look at each myth in turn:

  1. Solar panels don’t work unless the sun is shining

Because heat isn’t used for solar panels to create energy, it often makes no difference if it’s freezing outside or wall-to-wall sunshine, your panels will still create electricity. Even if it’s cloudy, raining, or snowing, your solar panels will still produce electricity, just not as much as they would if there were clear skies.

  1. Installing solar panels is complex and much maintenance is needed

The truth is that installing a solar power system takes no longer than a day, and provided you choose a reputable solar company, there is nothing complicated about the process and even cost of installing solar panels is very less.. That said, the permit acquiring process can be longwinded and complex, but your solar provider will take care of that on your behalf.

As for the solar system once it has been installed, these are incredibly low maintenance, and typically only require washing with water from time to time should dust, debris or bird droppings have accumulated on them. Having said that, you’ll find that rainwater does the job just as well.

  1. The cost of a solar system is based on your home’s size

Simply not true! The cost of a solar system is based solely upon you and the needs of your household. Systems can be mounted on the roof or ground depending upon the circumstances, and the number of panels required depends entirely on your energy usage, not the size of your home.

  1. It’s hard to sell a home with a solar energy system

Are you kidding me! How this myth ever began circulating is hard to understand, since research has consistently shown that a home with its own energy supply, is far more appealing to homebuyers than one that relies solely on the grid for all it’s electricity needs. In fact, the research goes on to show that homes with solar panels actually sell faster than homes without them, and for more money!

It’s important to fully understand the benefits of having a solar system installed before you go ahead and invest in one, but with so many reasons to choose solar over energy sources that rely on harmful fossil fuels, we’re confident you’ll soon see sense and invest in solar for yourself!
