Nominees for the 86th Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and included nominations for the LGBT-inclusive films Dallas Buyers Club and Philomena. The Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air live on ABC on March 2.
In addition to a well-deserved nomination for the stirring documentary How to Survive a Plague, the only only LGBT-inclusive film to receive a substantial Oscar nomination this year was actually the animated family film, ParaNorman.

It was announced this evening that director Brett Ratner has stepped down as producer of next year’s Oscar telecast following his public use of a anti-gay slur over the weekend, which resulted in widespread anger and immediate discussions with GLAAD. In addition, it has been announced that Ratner will now also work with GLAAD to convene a series of public discussions on LGBT images in Hollywood.
