Although he was born into a Kshatriya family, Rajinikanth is no longer a member of that caste. Instead, he follows a philosophy of Shree Ragavendhra Swami. As a matter of fact, he named his wedding hall after the holy man in his 100th film, “Sri Ragavendhrar.” His spiritual life is so significant to him that he regularly withdraws to the Himalayas to meditate.
When Rajinikanth was a child, he attended school in Bangalore and was a good student. He also loved sports. During his school years, his elder brother enrolled him in the Ramakrishna Math, a school set up by the Ramakrishna Mission, where he studied history, religion, and Vedas. During this time, he also began acting in plays, such as Ekalavya’s friend in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
Rajinikanth’s parents were Kshatriya Maratha, but his great-grandparents were Tamil. His father was a police officer and his mother a homemaker. He was a naughty boy at the age of eight, and his older brothers raised him as a child. His father supported his desire to attend film school and he eventually enrolled in the Madras Film Institute. He soon won a role in a Tamil film, “The Legend”.
